Building Thriving communities, Together

Here at Blue Mountain Action Council, we are proud to assist our neighbors in need and are grateful for the generous community members who give of their resources, time, and talents to join in building a brighter future for the Walla Walla Valley.

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities at BMAC:
Adult Literacy Tutoring
The Adult Literacy Program matches adults interested in improving their skill in a topic area with a one-on-one tutor to partner with them to achieve their goal.   Tutor/student pairs will meet twice each week for 60-minute tutoring sessions. Tutors will participate in an orientation meeting with the Adult Literacy Program Manager, a 4-hour training session and occasional tutor group meetings.

Tutors work with their students on a variety of topic areas including reading, writing, math, English as a second language (ESL), GED study and test preparation, citizenship/naturalization, basic computer skills, obtaining a driver’s license and much more. Please refer to the BMAC Adult Literacy page for more information.

Food Bank
Thanks for your interest in volunteering with the BMAC Food Bank. We are not currently accepting new volunteers. Please check back for future need and opportunities.

Other ways to support the BMAC Food Bank:
Long-Term Care Ombudsman
BMAC is the host of a new regional office for the Washington State Long-Term Care Ombuds Program (LTCOP). This program provides effective, visible advocacy for residents in long-term care facilities.

A certified Ombuds is a volunteer, observer, listener, detective, communicator, and problem-solver who advocates for residents in long-term care facilities. Each volunteer receives extensive free training and support.

Our volunteers find that they enjoy knowing that their volunteer work makes a critical difference in the lives of vulnerable people. Volunteer Ombuds work to protect residents’ rights and dignity, ensure quality care and prevent neglect, abuse, and other issues.

To learn more about becoming a volunteer, inquire here. For any other questions or concerns, please contact Nisrine at 509-520-5162 or nisrined@bmacww.org.

See the BMAC Ombudsman Page for more information.
Short-Term Volunteering:
In addition to the regular volunteer opportunities listed above, short-term volunteer opportunities arise occasionally. Please call our office at 509-529-4980 to speak with us about your volunteer interests.

Thank you for supporting our neighbors in need!
